Even with the economy in the pitiful state it is in, everyone deserves to take a break from the rat race.  If you thought a vacation was out of the question this year, think again.  There are deals out there.  Good deals.  You simply need to be creative, persistent, and do a little research in order to find a cheap vacation.

As of July 2010, Expedia.com is offering packaged deals for the budget-conscious traveler.  Expedia highlights Mexican resort destinations such as Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. But your cheap vacation isn’t limited to Mexico.  Other options include the Caribbean or popular hot spots in the United States such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York City. The packaged deals offered by Expedia include the flight and hotel with some packages including rental car, specific meals and other extra activities such as shows and sight-seeing excursions.

Another recommendation for finding cheap vacation deals is to book your trip in the summer for a fall vacation.  Often times a good deal can be found when booking your destination in the off-season.  Typically, summer is the most popular time for vacationing, but you may want to consider going later in the year to avoid the touristy crowds and the high costs of air travel and hotel expenses.

If money is truly an issue, day-trips or weekend travel are another alternative.  Getting away for the day or the weekend is a great way to take a mini vacation without the hassle of planning a long-term get-a-way.  Be a tourist in your own city by exploring sights you’ve never seen before. Taking the train instead of the car is an inexpensive way to travel and gives you the feeling that you are truly on vacation.

Expedia.com also offers excursion packages for short trips.  From day travel to a two or three night stay, there is a wide variety of destinations to choose from.  It’s important to your mental health and well-being to escape from the rigors of day-to-day life.  But with the many options and alternatives available, a cheap yet satisfying vacation is well within your reach.  Use the resources available to you on the Internet, get recommendations from your friends, discover places you’ve never considered before and plan the perfect get-away for you and your family.  Taking a vacation doesn’t have to break the bank, and you will come back feeling relaxed and renewed.
