My older brother is coming into town from way out in Vermont (I live in Phoenix, Arizona), and he is due to arrive this weekend. I am really excited to see him again, and I know that he is on vacation and looking for some good times. We both love fly fishing, and we used to go all of the time when we were kids. So I have been seeking out some sugary sweet cheap cabins in the White Mountains so that we can relive one of the cherished pastimes of our youth while he is in town.
What to Expect at Greer Lodge in the White Mountains
One place that I have my eyes set firmly upon is the Greer Lodge. This is a very nice cabin community resort that is nestled on Riparian Plains that underpass the White Mountains; you literally are surrounded by mountainous terrain and hiking trails on all sides. I have been up to Greer in the past, and I had a blast. They even have four fly fishing holes onsite, and they offer two restaurants, a few taverns and plenty of outdoor recreational activities that can be enjoyed. Even better, the Greer Lodge offers free fly fishing gear, no rental fees. With my brother in town on a whim, and his gear still in Vermont, and my gear rusty and aging, that’s just another perk to this awesome resort that offer cheap cabins in the White Mountains.
There are Tons of Great Fly Fishing Holes that are Unsurpassed
Aside from the glory and the splendor that the White Mountains has to offer to one and all, you should be aware that there are some of the very best fly fishing holes in the entire nation that are located up here as well. People from all over the US make the trek out to the White Mountains each year to get in some of the best hunting and fishing that can be had. Inclusive of reasons why anglers flock to this rugged terrain is that you can fish for some pretty tasty trout. For example, there are rainbow, brown and the very rare – and once endangered up until recently – speckled Apache trout. Think of the White Mountains mantra as a group of truly humble folks that are very hospitable and will welcome you in with open arms. Much like San Diego is catered to the surfing lifestyle, and you will see surf shops everywhere, such is the case in this region; but you will find hunting and fish and bait and tackle stores everywhere. Then it’s on to that sweet fishing hole for some serious rod-casting!
