There are many ways that anyone can take advantage of cheap vacations these days even with prices going back up to what they were before the recession. If you have a family and a career that does not allow you to take very much time away from your job, you can take traditional week-long vacations and find deals by searching the internet for low prices on everything from airfare to accommodations. If you are at a point in your life where you have no or little attachments, there are numerous options for cheap vacations at your fingertips but you will have to work for some of them! The thing to remember when deciding to work while traveling is that everyone needs to work to survive, the difference is, you will be working while doing something that you enjoy which is something that not very many people can say. Here are some of the ways that you can work and see the places you have always wanted to see:
1) If you live in Canada, a federal government program called SWAP allows young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to spend three months to a year in one of the sponsor countries. While in that country, participants are aided in the job-hunting process. Although you will be working while you are abroad, there will be plenty of free time where you can meet the local people and travel around your host country. Some countries that you can chose from include France, England, Ireland, Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia. If you do not live in Canada and you are interested in something like this, find out if something similar is available through the government of your country.
2) Become a nanny or Au Pair. There are many agencies that hire people to work in the homes of people who are looking for someone to live in their home and look after their children while they are at work. You get to pick what part of the world you go to and the length of time you are available for. When you are not working, there is plenty of free time to explore the area and pretty much do as you please and because you will be living in someone else’s home, you will be treated like part of their family which will bring with it special perks like free meals and accommodations and sometimes even use of the family car!
3) If you like to write, turn your hobby into a freelance job. Start looking for writing assignments online, submit stories and articles to anthologies and magazines or write SEO content for various companies and websites. Being able to make money while freelancing will allow you to travel and work from anywhere in the world through your laptop or internet cafes and you will be able to write about the places you travel to.
4) Some travel companies give customers the option of organizing group travel and if you get enough people to sign on for a tour, you will get to go for free or at a discounted price.
5) Teach English as a second language. There are many opportunities for this type of work in many countries and although some require participants to have university degrees, there are opportunities available for almost anyone who speaks English as a first language.
6) Many junior high and high schools host trips for students involved in certain programs and often times, there is a need for chaperones. Your main duties would include making sure the children are safe and that they show up for meals and scheduled events. You may be required to pay for some things but your trip will be mostly paid for.
Voluntourism is another popular way to get cheap travel and another bonus; helping people in need. There are many organizations that offer trips to many countries and although you will be responsible for your airfare, your accommodations and meals are usually paid for.
7) A good way to travel all over the world and make money for your travels as you go is to work in the service industry in various places as you travel. Many hotels and resorts all over the world hire people to work on contract from three to six months and sometimes even pay you to get there if you are hired. There are many jobs you can apply for including bartender, housekeeper and waiter or waitress and most times, your accommodations are located on the grounds of the resort and are paid for by the company.
These are just some of the ways you can take cheap vacations, make money as you make your way around the world and keep your resume free of blank spaces as you do so. When you do decide to make your way home, you will have many valuable skills built up to help you find employment in your field of choice!
